NEW UNIT OF COMPETENCY – HLTPAT010

HLTPAT005 has been superseded by HLTPAT010 – Collect Specimens for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing, the current nationally recognised unit of competency for organisations implementing workplace testing and compliance programs.

If your organisation conducts workplace drug and alcohol screening, transitioning to HLTPAT010 supports alignment with current industry standards and helps maintain the integrity of your testing procedures.

This unit outlines the skills and knowledge required to:

  • Confirm workplace testing requirements

  • Prepare participants and equipment for screening activities

  • Collect and manage samples in accordance with established procedures and compliance standards

HLTPAT010 – Collect Specimens for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing is the current nationally recognised unit of competency supporting workplace screening and compliance programs.

This unit forms part of best-practice processes for organisations conducting workplace drug and alcohol screening in accordance with Australian Standards.

It supports organisations seeking to align with:

  • AS/NZS 4308:2008 / 2023 (urine specimen collection and procedures)

  • AS 4760:2019 (oral fluid screening procedures)

 

Industry-Based Training

 

Progressive Diagnostics specialises in delivering accredited workplace training programs covering:

  • Urine specimen collection procedures

  • Oral fluid (saliva) specimen collection procedures

  • Breath alcohol screening and breathalyser operation

 

All training is focused on compliance, documentation, and correct workplace procedures.

This nationally accredited course provides both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to perform workplace screening activities in line with established procedures.

The face-to-face training course is currently on promotion at $550.00 per person  (normally $650.00). 

 

  • Accredited training is GST exempt.

Course Prerequisites

  • Minimum age: 18 years

 

From 1 July 2025, all Registered Training Organisations are required to assess each students Language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills prior to enrolment.

Participants must be able to:

  • Read and apply course materials

  • Complete documentation accurately

  • Communicate effectively in English

Participants should also be capable of:

  • Working independently within a defined role

  • Applying procedures in workplace environments

  • Responding to routine and unexpected situations

Training Delivery - Online

For those not in the Perth metro area, we also offer a blended online course delivery and includes:

  • Online theory modules

  • Practical assessment via:

    • face-to-face session, or

    • one-on-one webinar with a qualified trainer
